The last teaching period – Classroom practice
Nov. 18, 2005
1. Teaching purpose: Enable the students to do oral output on the foundation of 3 times of watching and listening;
2. Type of class: Practical;
3. Time allotted 3 teaching hours;
4. Content of teaching:
a) To update the viewpoint of oral English learning;
b) To familiarize students with the three standards (or criteria) of proper English oral output and the two abilities required;
c) Students activities: Movie karaoke, movie dubbing and movie
criticism.
4. Teaching process:
1) Teacher’s preliminary talk (30 m.)
A. The traditional viewpoint of oral English learning should be updated. Practice goes first, for language is learnt, rather than taught. Every learner is required to be ready to participate in the class activities; What we practices is a kind of inter-language. So there is no need to be afraid of making mistakes. We are learning speaking through speaking, and are sure to improve ourselves by constant practice and performance.
B. Principles to be stick to:
a. Tree criteria of English speaking are to be remembered:
Fluency – accuracy – appropeacy
b. Two speaking abilities are to be trained and practiced:
Speaking in conversation;
Speaking in succession and in public.
C. Pictures and video are going to be taken for the purpose of further self-improvement
2) Students activities (2 teaching hours)
A. Movie karaoke – developing the ability of conversation;
B. Movie dubbing and movie – developing the ability of conversation in succession and in public
3) Conclusion by the teachers (15m.)
5. Home work
A. Getting ready to analyze the pictures and videos and making plan to improve yourselves;
B. Preview next film Gone with the Wind
